Fair Housing Issues and Liability Traps

Understanding the HOA’s Obligations Under the Fair Housing Act

This session will examine common Fair Housing Act issues that community associations may encounter and the potential liability risks that can arise when requests, rules, or complaints are not handled appropriately.

Topics include:

  • Association obligations under the Fair Housing Act
  • Disabilities and owner requests for reasonable accommodations
  • Familial status discrimination
  • Well-intended rules that may violate fair housing laws
  • Emotional support animals and harassment claims
  • Handling fair housing complaints and litigation

The symposium will conclude with an attorney panel Q&A session, giving attendees an opportunity to ask questions and hear practical perspectives from the presenting attorneys on legal issues affecting community associations.
